Iraq Prayer Update – Rising Regional Tensions

With the turmoil in Iran, much is at stake, and because Baghdad is essentially controlled by Iran, this spills over into Iraq. The possibility that former Iraq President Nouri al‑Maliki might be elected Prime Minister is a huge concern — especially for Christians.

Under his previous leadership, extremist groups such as ISIS gained a strong foothold, leading to massive upheaval, destruction, and persecution of Christians. Many Yazidis and Shia Muslim communities also suffered greatly.

(Note: ISIS is a violent extremist organization responsible for severe harm, loss of life, and human rights violations.)
