HUNGER, ANGER, FEAR AND LONELINESS defined these refugee children in Iraq at the beginning of Summer ’24… but now their story has changed in just one summer—because of love. God’s love and your love!
Meet just a few refugee children in our Child Sponsorship Program in Northern Iraq. Because of your love and generosity, they are learning about love through our teams’ example. They are making friends, finding emotional healing, and building trust. Many of the children made faith decisions and others are still waiting. Please pray for them.
Our staff did a fantastic job teaching these kids weekly for three months. These were six teens who were once in the same place as the children below. Now, they’ve grown in their faith and are pouring into the next generation as young leaders.

Mikaela (IQE426), is one of the students who attended all the lessons this summer regularly and is very smart. She came to Iraq as a refugee after she and her family lost everything they owned, including all her friends. This has been very tough for her.
When she first arrived at our summer Bible school, she felt lonely and couldn’t get along with the other children. However, over time, she was able to make new friends, and the school became a means for her to connect with new people. She loved hearing the Bible stories and wants to keep learning about God.
Stephanie (IQE497), was a very quiet girl when she first joined us at school. She had a hard time interacting with the other children, but over time, she was able to adjust and made a few friends which was so nice to see. She worked hard and memorized many verses from the Bible. She also listened intently and learned a lot of stories from these sessions, which gave her a good knowledge of the Bible that she never had before. Stephanie is currently unsponsored.
Michel (IQE508) joined the school to spend time with his friends, and he also made a group of new friends. The Child Sponsorship Program summer Bible school helped him learn new things and understand many stories from the Bible. He asked many questions about Christ. Please pray with us for Michel, that he may give his heart to the Lord and accept Him into his heart. Michel is currently unsponsored.
When we first met Delan (IQE463) he was a very stubborn and disobedient child. He wouldn’t listen to the teachers and didn’t care about what would happen at Bible school. In fact, he really didn’t care about what happened period! However, after many lessons and as our staff patiently spent time with him, Milan began to learn how to behave properly, listen to instructions, and be obedient. He enjoyed participating and singing and eventually paid attention in the Bible lessons.
Let me share with you Jorj’s (IQE506) story. He recently attended our Child Sponsorship Program summer Bible school. This boy’s father makes him stand in the street selling water because of their financial situation. Jorji comes to our class very hungry. We provide food for him, and he was initially very angry about his life. But since being with us, his attitude has changed a lot. He memorizes Bible verses and has learned about Jesus. We’re praying for Jorji and hope you will too. His life is not easy, so please pray for him. Jorji is currently unsponsored.
Melissa (IQE116) has a bright and bubbly personality and really loves attending our Bible school. She helps out when she can and enjoys making other feel comfortable. This summer she said she felt that she was learning more about God and how he loves her and listens to her prayers. We’ve seen her growing in her faith this year.
