Backpacks and Hope: Child Sponsorship Stories from Northern Iraq
Meet Marina, a bright young student in our Child Sponsorship Program in the Nineveh Plain. This past year, she received a Certificate in Recognition of Academic Excellence for her outstanding performance at school! Marina, her brother, and their family live outside Mosul and are thriving despite difficult circumstances, thanks to the support of sponsors like you. Backpacks for children in Northern Iraq make it possible for students like Marina to succeed.
This is Farah which means “joy” in Arabic – can you see it in her face? She is a hard working student and studies anytime she can – even during the summer, (lower right photo). Farah also loves the Lord and is growing in her faith. She and her family live near the Turkish border – a very tough place to be right now; they endure the constant stresses of shelling. Her mother is a school teacher and is not paid regularly by the government due to lack of funds, so the school and food supplies provided by Indigenous Ministries mean that her parents can provide a more stable way of life for their family.
