Successful Launch of our Child Sponsorship Program in Egypt

When most people think of Egypt, the Pyramids at Giza come to mind. In October I was awe-struck by them; a spectacular and inspiring sight to see as they’ve withstood the test of time. This reminds me of Isaiah 40:8, “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of our God endures forever.” This verse is filled with hope; a confidence in God that His Word and love are forever. But many, many young children in Egypt don’t have this hope.

In October, after much prayer and preparation, our new Child Sponsorship Program in Egypt was launched with our national pastors and local churches. Weeks before we had sent documents to Jordan for translation into Arabic. When we held meetings in Egypt and passed out all of the forms and documents in Arabic, our national ministry team was thrilled. As we worked our way through the policies point by point, the exchange of ideas and a great excitement began to flow from all team members making it clear we were ready to launch this program and make it a success!  The program team was chosen, including a director and four women to work directly with the children.

How are the children and families helped? The child sponsorship program provides for the children’s basic needs nutritious meals, medical care and clothing as needed. Each child and his or her family will be exposed to the Gospel of Christ and the children will have regular Bible lessons, Scripture memory and education assistance. We will be helping orphans and half-orphans.

Sponsors’ vital and beneficial role: This program not only benefits the child, but also the sponsors who partner with us to help make this possible financially.  Another vital sponsor role is to uplift the child they are sponsoring in prayer.  We are asking the Lord for sponsors to engage with us monthly whose support will provide each child with an opportunity for a better life because of increased nutrition, a good education, and an upbringing in the Word of God.
