GRATEFUL SUDANESE MOMS SHARE THEIR APPRECIATION

Sudanese refugee families in Egypt share their gratitude

Sudanese refugee families in Egypt recently surprised our team with a joyful evening of worship and testimonies. We were just as excited for the evening program to begin as the children were. But first, we all had to get to the church! After walking a few blocks, we turned the corner and saw two large buses filled with dozens of wiggling Sudanese kids and their mothers, all eager to share the programs they had prepared. We joined them onboard, greeted everyone, and as the buses hummed forward, the mothers and children began singing back and forth to each other beautiful, fresh joyful praise songs.

That was only the first of several surprises these grateful mothers had in store. Since we opened our Child Sponsorship Program in Cairo three years ago with these precious Sudanese families, it’s been difficult to gauge their responses due to PTSD and extreme stresses from the war. But month after month as our teams have painstakingly shown God’s faithful love, the mothers and children have not only trusted in Christ but our teams; and this evening they wanted to express their thanks, and it began with gifts of songs.

We all poured off the buses and into the church, and soon the wonderful evening our team had so carefully planned began with the children singing and sharing their memory verses (see top photo on page 2). After the program ended, the real surprise began, as the mothers began their own program which consisted of them singing and giving testimonies of God’s grace. If you are a sponsor, this was for you too! They are so grateful for the love, care and help their children and family receive. They gave small gifts of appreciation to our local team and each of the US team. Each mother has a story of extreme heartache and grief and still face many challenges, yet they have come to Christ—some through our program and some while in Sudan—and that night they shared that their faith in God has been strengthened and the love and help they receive gives them hope.
